The Stewardship Minute – Matthew 6:19-20
In Matthew 6:19-20, Jesus gives us a compelling incentive for our giving. He instructs us, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth…but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” Notice, Jesus is telling who we are to be laying up treasures in heaven for. It is not for God, nor for Jesus or His church, nor the poor. He tells us to lay up treasures for ourselves. When we deploy God’s material resources we possess for Kingdom purposes, we are not giving them up, we are merely postponing our possession of them until later. Now, instead of only enjoying our possessions for a short time while we are here, we will now be enjoying them forever while we are there. Sounds like a really good deal to me. Think about it.
